Our prospective client contacted us in early 2006 asking us to make an appointment to view their bathroom & ensuite.

This renovation was located upstairs in a 12 year old Cooks Hill apartment complex which was rather bland with basic fixtures & accessories.

The main bathroom is an unusual rectangular shape which presented some design challenges.

The finished project features a sumptuous deep, white press metal bath mounted beside a screen-less shower recess.

The wall mounted vanity units have unusual large single drawers, and the mixer style tap ware adds a distinctive European flavour.

The focal point of the ensuite is the wall to wall, 10mm frameless glass shower screen featuring duel shower roses at either end.

Both bathrooms have quality accessories including stainless steel hard wired heated towel rails & recessed frameless mirrors.

The finished result creates a warm mood with a touch of refined modern elegance.

FACT FILE: This bathroom and ensuite was designed by the clients in collaboration with Mark Herps from Absolutely Fabulous Bathrooms P/L.

The tiles were sourced through Domayne Bathroom Design Cente (84 O’Riodan St, Alexamdria) www.domayne.com.au

Brief:
The clients wanted to transform their existing Main Bathroom and create a luxurious ‘Hotel Style’ ambience.

Scope of Works:

  • The original Bathroom was a slightly confused and cluttered 3-way bathroom. The first step was to remove all internal walls to optimise the space available. Capturing the maximum available natural light was important as a dark chocolate 600 x 300 polished porcelain wall tile was selected to be laid vertically to an approximate ceiling height of 2550mm. With this in mind, the only original items retained in the existing bathroom were the two westerly facing aluminium sliding windows.

  • The existing entry door was moved slightly to allow for a customised 1900 x 500 wall hung Vanity Unit to be installed on the immediate right hand side as you enter the bathroom. The Vanity Unit is finished in a gloss white two pack polyurethane finish with concealed soft close handle-free drawers.

  • The benchtop is 40mm Corian in a Polar White with a Ceramic Globo 600 x 400 vessel basin, mirroring the bath. Set into the tiles above this unit is a 1800 x 1000 frameless polished edge mirror which serves to refract light and enhance the feeling of spaciousness.

  • Concealed behind this Vanity Unit is a wall hung Kohler Presquile toilet pan with a concealed ‘in-wall’ cistern. The cistern is flushed by a pneumatic half and full flush buttons, mounted on a stainless steel wall panel. Having the vanity and toilet wall hung creates greater floor space and enhances the illusion of space. Perhaps the most striking feature as you open the door to this luxurious Bathroom area is the white ‘Lanark Jada’ floor mounted oval bath. The Bath is 1750 x 850 with a generous recessed shelf extending the length of the Bath with all tiled edges mitred.

  • The ‘walk’ in style shower recess boasts a huge 1200 x 1100 area with a Veitch Stainless Steel shower channel with an ‘Aqua’ style grate finished in a satin chrome as the only floor waste in the Bathroom.

  • The shower is adorned with a contemporary Dorf ARC shower rail which includes an overhead fixed rose and a hand held rose controlled by an integral diverter on the shower rail.

  • The shower recess is sectioned off from the entry door with a large 10mm clear toughened glass partition. Outside the shower is a ladder style heated towel rail 800 x 665 hard wired and switched at the entry door. The shower also has a recessed shelf.

  • The warm cream 300 x 300 porcelain floor tiles complement the dark chocolate wall tiles providing an unusual contrast that delivers an elegant, luxurious bathroom offset by the crisp white fixtures, quality chrome tapware and accessories.

Fact File:

  • The mixer tapware and accessories are all premium quality Dorf ARC, supplied by Tradelink.
  • The toilet Suite is premium quality Kohler exclusive to Tradelink.
  • The free standing bath is Lanark ‘Jada’ also supplied by Tradelink.
  • Vanity custom design and construction is by Open Sky Design Joinery.
  • The exceptional tiling featuring all external corners superbly mitred is by MJ Ingle Floor and Wall Tiling.
  • The Veitch Stainless Steel channel was supplied by Reece Plumbing Supplies.

Expect to pay: $31,500.00 approximately, which includes all tiles, fixtures and accessories.
